Just because spring has sprung, it doesn't mean the rain has gone away!
On Day 4 of NYFW, it poured rain all day across the five boroughs. I had three shoots scheduled, plus was attending the Vivi Zubedi runway show in the afternoon and wanted to shoot street style. Instead of cancelling all of my shoots and just spending the day inside with a soy rooibos tea latte, I tapped into my resourceful Seattle-self and found indoor/covered/alternative locations!
Read on for my best finds in Manhattan and Brooklyn for shooting on a rainy day.
Coffee shops are a classic indoor blog shoot location, but not all coffee shops are created with excellent lighting. Look for coffee shops with large windows, wide open spaces, and bright interior.
My suggestions in Manhattan include: Maman in Tribeca, Eat by Chloe in Greenwich Village, and Rebel Coffee in Chelsea.
My suggestions in Brooklyn include: Brooklyn Roasting Company on Jay Street (pictured below), and Gimme Coffee in Williamsburg.
NYC is full of hidden, partially or fully-covered areas perfect for shooting with great lighting while still staying dry.
My suggestions in Manhattan include: NoMo SoHo in Soho, World Trade Center Oculus in the Financial District, the Manhattan Municipal Building in Two Bridges, and under the High Line in Chelsea.
My suggestions in Brooklyn include: Archway Under Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO and under the Williamsburg Bridge in Williamsburg.
Museums of all sorts make for great pictures - who doesn't love surrounding yourself with art and artefacts! Always check a museum's photography policy before embarking on a shoot.
My suggestions in Manhattan include: Outside the Whitney Museum in Chelsea and the American Wing Atrium in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
My suggestions in Brooklyn include: The Brooklyn Museum in Prospect Park.
Let me know in the comments below where you like to shoot when the weather is less than perfect!
